Leading through Change

The hardest part of leading through change isn't the strategy.

It's showing up with clarity when you don't have all the answers.

People don't need their leaders to be certain. They need them to be present — consistent, communicative, and anchored enough that others can find their footing.

I have seen organizations fumble through change due to a lack of communication. The reasoning is often that they want all the facts before communicating. B‍ut in fast-moving environments, silence doesn't feel like neutrality to your team. It feels like confirmation that something is wrong.

The leaders who build trust during uncertainty tend to do a few things differently:

‍ ‍🗣️ Communicate proactively. In ambiguous environments, silence gets filled with rumor. Flag what you're working on, name uncertainties openly, check in before you're asked. People who do this are perceived as leaders regardless of their title.

🧭 Become a sense-maker. People aren't just hungry for information during change — they're hungry for narrative. You don't need all the answers. You need to be the person who translates complexity into clarity and helps others find their footing. That skill gets noticed.

🤝 Invest in relationships during disruption, not after. Most people pull inward when things feel uncertain. The ones who advance do the opposite, building cross-functional connections and expanding their network while org charts are still being drawn. Disruption creates access. Use it.

The pressure to project confidence during change is real. But the most effective leaders know there's a difference between confidence and certainty.

Confidence says: I don't know exactly where this goes, but I know we have what it takes to navigate it.

That's the message people need to hear.
