Hispanic Heritage Month: Bringing Your Whole Self to the Room Where High Performance Is Everything

What does it mean to bring your whole identity into a room where performance is everything?

For me, it means bringing my perspective as a Latina woman into my work as a psychologist and coach working with high-performing professionals in Legal and Finance.

I’ve had the privilege of coaching people who are exceptionally accomplished—leaders navigating demanding careers, high-stakes decisions, complex organizations, and the constant pressure to perform.

But behind the title, credentials, and accomplishments is a person.

Someone managing expectations.
Someone navigating identity and belonging.
Someone trying to succeed without losing themselves in the process.

My own intersectional identities have shaped the way I listen, ask questions, and understand the experiences my clients bring into the room. Being a Latina woman has taught me that achievement and identity are not separate conversations. Culture, family, gender, expectations, resilience, and belonging can all influence how we experience success.

Hispanic Heritage Month is an opportunity for me to reflect on what we bring with us—not only our professional expertise, but our histories, perspectives, values, and lived experiences.

For me, culturally responsive coaching means creating space for the whole person, not just the professional résumé.

Because high performance should not require us to leave parts of ourselves at the door.

What parts of your identity have shaped the way you work, lead, or show up professionally?
